Alter Hair Review

THe Short Hair Secret?

Beautiful Faux Hair!

Hey, hey, fam and Happy 2022! I’ve just wrapped up my big fitness goal for 2021 by completing the WDW Marathon Weekend endurance challenge. And to be perfectly honest, training four days a week really took up a ton of time. Part of that means I’ve been really relying on my ponies in lieu of doing any up-dos during holiday parties so I was psyched to try out a new brand: Alter Hair.

Easy Faux Hair 101: It can be super intimidating to try out some hair - is it going to look super fake and dumb? Is it going to take forever and be impossible to do? Dude, no. Pony extensions are where it’s at. Even if you have long hair, pony extensions give you that full pony look you see in the media. I love Jasmine/Ariana hair as much as anyone but even when my hair was super long…no dice.

How-To

I got my friend a pony for Christmas and she was like…umm you’ll have to give me a tutorial but y’all. It’s so easy it’s ridiculous. If your hair is not long or thick. you just make a tight bun at the top of your hair, put the comb at the base of your ponytail, wrap the hairwrap piece around the base and secure it with the bobby pins that come with the pony. It looks great and it takes less than two minutes. If you have pretty short hair, I would recommend clipping up the short pieces of your hair so there aren’t short pieces when you’re swishing your pony around.*

As far as color matching, it’s super simple because each pony comes with a test strip so you can double-check to make sure you picked the wrong color before you open the packaging. I would describe as “dark brown” which equates to black brown. Additionally, any high quality hair (for example, Alter Hair uses Japanese Synthetic hair), which looks lnatural and not like the cheap, plasticky, too shiny hair you see with the grocery store faux hair.

Maintenance

The best part of high-quality is faux hair is that if it gets knotted it’s not trashed, you simply gently brush it out and the shape and curls bounce right back. Both the ponies I wore last full, windy and light rainy days, at Disney World, no problem!

Pony No. 2 in Black Brown

Pony No. 2

I LOVE the curl of Pony No. 2. It’s more of a sophisticated, loose curl that I would wear in lieu of getting an up-do for a party.

Pony No. 5 in Black Brown

Pony No. 5

Pony No. 5 is my FAV! I love the length, I love the curl and a true tip is if you want to have a wear all day pony, the curlier the better because it hides any long-wear tangles. (If you’re addicted to sleek ponies just make sure to carry a small brush!). I’m obsessed and wore this two days in a row and it looked bomb with no touch ups all day.

Alright, so I had long hair forever and sometimes I miss it! A fun way to bring back the old look in a hurry is clip-in extensions. Clip in extensions can sometimes be hard to blend but another pro tip? Curl your hair. The cool thing about the Alter Hair U Clip is that it’s high quality so you can actually heat style it. It was fun to look like pre 2018 Selfie for a bit.
