Mr. Selfie: What…is it now?

Selfie: Nerfin….just a present I bought for myself

I’ll be real with you, during normal times**, I’m not into online shopping. It lacks the instant gratification of actual shopping. Additionally, I will confess here and now, Selfie is cheap as hell. In the absence of actual things to do and places to go though, the automatic “look for joy” trigger turned to buying stuff online. I’ve mentioned the Coping Queso & Tequila TM but I know I’m not the only person who started buying random ish online. (Mr. Selfie literally rolled his eyes and laughed about this series because it’s so real). To that I say. Listen. The sales were absolutely ridiculous and I love sales.***

Back in April, I mentioned that I had purchased a purse. To wear. At Walt Disney World. That purse is in my closet and brings me like no joy at all. Why? Because there’s no possible way that I’ll be using it for that purpose anytime soon. At which point my therapist politely pointed out that just like other coping mechanisms, shopping can be one, too, so…it is a habit to be minded. Bearing that in mind, I have tried to focus my shekels on things that are useful right now or in replacement of a normal spend: Nail products to replace manicures, a treadmill in place of a gym membership, and apparently, wigs in lieu of getting my hair cut.

TBIQ: Loungewear

But first things, first! The first thing I *coughs* “invested” in was loungewear. A solid half of my clothes is workout gear but workout gear isn’t designed for laying facedown on the carpet and uh, needed to be sized up. * looks around * Can’t imagine why. and so I present the first TIBIQ: Comfy-Ass Clothes.

Casspy

At some point in a past life (February), I was not at all susceptible to IG ads but gosh dang it. They got me. They got me so bad. I had to have the official outfit of the pandemic: A ding-dang pastel sweatshirt/short outfit. I remember when the marketing came out for Lover. I specifically mentioned that the aesthetic was not my jam. But damn it, Taylor. I wear this damn pastel sweatshirt every weekend and I. LOVE. IT.

As for the actual company? It’s a hard NO. It’s hard to fault anyone for shipping delays but after two months, this arrived missing a full item for which I received a half refund, the quality is meh and anytime I checked on the shipping they were so unhelpful. Plus by the time I got my partial refund, it wasn’t even that inexpensive. Real talk: if you’re in the market, I’d invest in something from Nordstrom and not one of these fast-fashion online companies. ^^ As to sweatshirt shorts? Despite sizing up, I have no idea if or when I’d ever wear these shorts. They just aren’t flattering.

I remember when I got this in and I was explaining to Mr. Selfie about the company and explained that my friend Cat could not stop raving about these joggers. His running theory is that I will take the exact same suggestions he gives me as long as it comes from someone where else. “Umm. I mentioned this company to you two years ago.” “Nuh-uh” *Walks upstairs and comes down wearing literally the same outfit except in menswear* “Huh, he’s right.”

At any rate, if you want to know what I’m wearing pretty much any weeknight ever? It’s this outfit. Cat (and Mr. Selfie, I guess) was 100% correct. This is the most freaking comfortable outfit I own, period. Howevah, it’s actually not one of the most flattering things I own. (Please note how there are no Selfie modeling pics of these). I also don’t love Grey clothes. And these pants only look good with this little crop top and that’s it. But so, so comfortable. I’m literally wearing it right now while writing this.

Masqd

In being obsessed with the whole tie-dye sweatshirt/short thing, I was already pretty susceptible to trying again after the Casspy mess. And then Masqd, a LA-based company, deigned to make matching face masks and gosh dang it, I knew I was sold because I’m either extra basic or basic extra af.

As to the actual product? Fairly similar to the Casspy quality, more expensive, the shorts are unflattering and the sweatshirt is a crop-top which is not what I was going for. Regardless, it’s lightweight, colorful, and my other go-to outfit.

Anthropologie

I also don’t shop at anthro ever. I bought a very specific headband there last year^^ and that’s literally it. I also don’t (didn’t) own denim shorts. When I go out in the summer I wear sundresses and skirts so this isn’t crazy. However, I’m not going out and I was gifted a pair of these shorts and now I’m obsessed with how comfortable they are to the point that I bought another two pairs.

So, that’s what I’m wearing around the house this summer. Have you leaned into the casual wear trend? Any good finds? You can always find me on IG or Pinterest: @Selfiedoes

*I want to take a quick minute and recognize the intense amount of privilege tied to this particular series. There are a lot of a lot of people out there who could not have stress-shopped. I fully appreciate that fact and present this series in the lighthearted manner in which it’s intended and to maybe help in making some rational shopping choices for those who are also online.

**Anyone who comes on here and says the term “new normal”…I will Liam Neeson you. You know what I mean. I can’t do it. *deep breath*

** I told you. Mama’s cheap.

^ If you recall at the beginning of the pandemic, the delivery chain came to a grinding halt because, you know, trying to get actual equipment to medical professionals and frontline workers. To that degree, I endeavor to give a heads up about long turnaround times but without adding it as a knock to the companies involved.

^^A very important headband that @ColorMeCourtney directed me to to complete my Beauxbatons outfit for my trip to Diagon Alley. 2019 was a different time.
