October Wellness Round-Up #Q15
Whoa! We made it to Chapter 10 - How’s everyone’s 2020 health and wellness plans going? For me, I was hoping to check in with a “heck yeah! No more Q15 - it’s all gone!” but I’ve been hovering at 10 lbs to go FOR MONTHS. Like 3 solid months which is, honestly pretty frustrating but on the other hand, there have been plenty of wins. First of all, a third of the Q15 has stayed off for months. Second, I’ve been exercising pretty dang consistently and third, the veggie/solid food part of my diet is pretty darn good. So, I’ll take it! As we go into the last part of the year, I’ve rounded up some inspiration prior to the weirdness that will be a COVID Halloween, T-Gives and Christmas.
Last 90 Days
Last 90 Days is a challenge from the Hollis Co all about ending the year as strong as we normally start a year. While I’m just pretty over the Hollis entities for a minute, I love this idea and it’s worth checking out if you’re looking for some motivation. I did this with my friend Jenny last year and it was really a great way to keep good habits going. Last 90 Days consists of sticking with the 5 to Thrive everyday until the end of the year:
1) Drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water
2) Move your body at least 30 minutes a day
3) Get up an hour earlier to spend time achieving a goal
4) Give up one category food you don’t need (Pick a new food for each month)
5) Write down something you’re grateful everyday
It’s a really nice practice to get in the habit of doing some really simple but really positive practices everyday. You can find out more at thehollisco.com
Various Fitness Challenges
Tone it Up has TIU4You and Lauren Gleisberg has the 2020 Fall Challenge if you want to do one of the many social media influencer challenges, now is a great time before the holidays. But if you don’t want to join in one of the big challenges (or are a stickler for starting on time and those are like three days in), just grab one or a few of friends and do your own challenge. One of my friends and I are doing separate Chloe Ting challenges at the same time. It’s awesome to way to work out and plus, I love trying to new fitness programs so I’m doing a 21 day challenge and my friend Renee is doing a 25 legs challenge.
Virtual Races
If you love to run, you’re probably pretty bummed that all our cool fall races (and winter races) are canceled. My fam and I had signed up for an AWESOME Run Disney Villains-themed double race challenge which was canceled back in July. My favorite local race - Run for the Water - is now the global Run for the Water. And there are countless others out there if you’re missing something to train for. My friend Jenny has done a couple virtual 5ks with family members or friends and you get cute shirts, medals and race swag. It’s a good way to stay motivated if you’re trying to keep running.
Sober October
In an effort to push through to you know…the next level of the #Q15…I’ve decided to see where I can get without the hooch. Cue: Sober October. Because I didn’t make up that name, seems like a pretty common thing, I guess. I’m a veteran of dry January which is always a good reset. And while I love me some margs, it’s nice to feel the slog and inflammation that is a byproduct of alcohol. I’m not…dogging on you, booze. It’s just biologically accurate. Anyways, if you want some dry month tips, may I suggest mocktails. And a recent discovery is this hemp extract from AVVA that you can add to your mocktails and have a nice natural unwind. I’ve also started drinking a good holy basil ashwaganda tea with the “Best Healthy Cookie” recipe from Healthier Together by Liz Moody - uh, they are amazing.
Meditation Challenge
Another thing going on this week is a 9 day Meditation with @LizMoody and @Inspiralized . Meditation is one of those things I know I SHOULD do but like…sitting on the couch and watching all of Schitt’s Creek while drinking a margarita is like…more immediate. Getting started or getting started again with meditation is ridiculously easy to do. You don’t have to start 20 min - just this morning, I did a quick 3 min meditation to start my day on my Fitbit app. There’s a whole post on meditation tips here!
Alright, guys! It’s October - how’s your Q15 going? Any new wellness practices/tips/tricks to share?
