Selfie Does Sephora Summer Sale

IMG_8319 (2).JPG

First of all, yes I posted yesterday but I just wanted to do some quick product reviews during the summer sale and it ends on the 27th which is probably after my next post date. Plus, don’t you want to have all weekend to shop?* “Selfs…are you just randomly doing all makeup now?” Listen, it’s my site that like four people read so if I want to double up on beauty posts, let’s just live our best lives.

Before we get into my product suggestions, a brief convo about Sephora’s VIB program: Sephora, what is going on, girl? Like what is happening? When I originally hit Rouge status a few years ago the perks included 2-day flash shipping and unlimited makeup applications. That was well worth it to me. Then last year, you had to pick between 2-day shipping, makeovers for friends or points but with continued unlimited makeup applications. In addition, makeup applications for non-rouge members required a $50 product purchase. All of that seems incredibly fair. Last week on the website when I went to make an appointment, the cost had increased to $60 per application with no discussion of Rouge status nor product and so when I walked in the MUA was like “Yeah, they changed it so you just pay the cost of the service with no product going forward and for Rouge you have to select makeovers.” I quickly pointed out that the Rouge status is for all of 2019 so there was no selection to be made yet so that couldn’t be right and yes, I did go back and look at the fine print on the Sephora website and I was correct. All this to say:

1) Sephora does the worst job explaining policy changes to their own employees much less their customers;

2) If you’re Rouge, your applications are still free for 2019 and don’t let anybody tell you differently; and

3) Just be aware that if you were getting an application because you needed to pick up some product, you’ll be paying for both your product and the $60 application. Also, IMO the application would be worth that price like…90% of the time but I’ve definitely had a few baaaaaaaaaad applications** so just plan in advance/maybe give yourself more time. For me, the unlimited applications for Rouge and before that, for picking up something I was going to buy over $50 is 100% of the reason why I will pick up product at Sephora instead of on Amazon or elsewhere online even if it’s cheaper.

“Thank you, Selfie for that diatribe.”  You’re welcome, Victoria!*** And now on to our regularly scheduled program. Beyond the items from my last post, I have some recommendations.  First up, the Huda Rose Gold and Desert Dusk palettes are 35% off right now + the sale. I have vowed to myself to not buy a single additional eye shadow palette for AWHILE. I have a ton, they are all awesome and I end up wearing the same gold eye look errday but I love the Rose Gold palette and that stuff is never on sale so go get it!

2) Fenty Bomb Baby: I love trying mini sizes because I want all the product and none of the costs. I watch way too much Tati on YouTube and wanted to give this gloss a shot + the highlighter is blingy as all heck which I love.

3) Sephora Products: The cream lips are especially beautiful - I love the formula and the price. They are often on sale and the value is great. Yes, it’s drying because it’s a long-wear lipstick but man, since I‘ve started wearing these, I just stopped wearing any of the Stila Stay All Day or the KVD I have and I like the colors/tones Sephora has better.  I also got Sephora color correcter – great formula and less than half the price as the not-as-good Urban Decay one. Oh, and also, I really like their brushes.

4) Ole Henriksen Let’s Get Luminous. I’m also weirdly cheap about eye cream but very few brands include an eye cream in their value sets and that’s how they get you. But not me. Because I will keep buying this Ole Henriksen set and to be fair, I also really love the moisturizer and truth serum both of which kept my skin looking like…really good even sans shower up in the Himalayas.^

5) Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer: Concealer is one of those things that I just think is a super boring beauty product and never talk about but I’ve been using this one forever and only buy it during a sale. Which, P.S. Sephora, having 90 sales a year is not a replacement for transparency about your policies, k? Thx. Bye. ^^

6) Other boring stuff: I also think things like setting sprays and powders are not as fun but I pick those up at sale time, too. For example UD All Nighter is pretty much the only thing I buy from that brand. I also picked up an Hourglass setting powder for my SIL to try out.

7) Oooh. I also got this eyeliner kit from Sephora favorites and I’m really loving the Fenty Flyliner!

Okay! That’s the wrap up – I would ask you to tell me what you’re getting but I need to start shopping for work clothes and not buy cosmetics…^^^

* “Shop” is code for doing a weird amount of research, reading all the reviews, putting items in cart and deleting most of them, no?

**Mostly by newer employees and that’s okay. A senior MUA either fixed it or I fixed it at home but I would have been put out if I had simply paid $60 for it.

***Yeah. I’ve just started using my actual friends’ names now. It’s all love.

^Ugh. Subtle Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag but it’s true! and it’s very drying at that altitude!

^^ “Is this a post about complaining about your favorite store or about the sale?” Yes and Yes. They also did this super weird thing this year where they accidentally added too many points to people’s accounts at some point and then deleted them…without telling anyone what the issue was first. Literally finding out about changes in their IG comments is not a great look.

^^^Please tell me anyways!
