Selfie Does Yellow!

It’s been a teeeeeny moment here on Selfiedoes simply because May is a back-to-back travel week for ol’ Selfs but what can ya do? If I have been lucky enough to run into you recently you know that right now I’m obsessed with YELLOW. Style-wise. I’m not like…painting the Honda Fit like a lemon. Yellow signifies everything bright, sunshine-y and summery which is what we’ve arrived at now that I’ve vacated my permanent stay at the various Marriott Courtyards across the country. I used to really avoid yellow because I thought it wasn’t a flattering color but like pretty much every other color…I was super wrong! Everyone has a flattering shade of yellow - it’s just about finding a tone that compliments your skin tone. Personally, I tend to go more for a bright lemon or mustard and avoid those lighter buttercup tones right after Papa Jose talked me out of the red version of this drink-around-the-world purchase/birthday gift. But here’s the thing: fashion and style are supposed to be fun! So wear bright colors! Wear big earrings! You do you! And Here’s how I do yellow.

Formal Yellow

A personal favorite of mine is this ML Monique Lhuillier Sunshine Day Gown which I originally got for a wedding from Rent the Runway. I used it to cover a confusion about the dress code - evening wedding but no black-tie designation. (The real story here is that I just missed the correct attire designation en Espanol.) Annnnyhoodles, because this fabric is so nice but the dress is high-low, it hit the perfect medium between wearable as a gown or dressed down. Since I actually needed to be wearing a gown, I simply dressed it up with jewelry. With this sunshine yellow, I love pairing it with a super bright blue for the right pop across the color spectrum (Here’s a similar pair) . I also own this shoe in like….7 colors and patterns so I’m obviously a fan. Thanks, DSW for the cooooupons! I ended up buying this gown because I love it so much and I don’t…want to pay $50+ every time I want to wear it. Since it’s from several seasons ago, it was really easy to find on eBay.

A newer find has been this awesome mustard color dress from -surprise, surprise - chicwish.com. Also! If you’re not into yellow (but…this post will surely convince you otherwise?!) it comes in three different colors, it’s super comfortable and just looks so chic* when it moves. Pairing this with simple tan shoes and a purple accessory (also across the ol’ color spectrum) is just super simple outfit that garnered a lot of compliments whilst touring even more of the Hill Country Wineries. Also, because this is about summer style - making sure to pick cuts and fabrics that can stand up to Texas heat and humidity is key!

Summer Separates

If you’re not keen on a whole dress in bright yellow consider adding a touch of yellow to a blue outfit like these shoes or a purse like this one from Kate Spade that’s on my wish list. I saw this skirt with a white button-up in the window at Banana Republic last year and knew I needed but the shape of the skirt gave me a very dancing-girl emoji vibe and when I found this ruffled one-shoulder shirt, I knew this was it. I LOVE this outfit. Once again, it’s a Texas summer staple because the thickness of this fabric stands up to the glorious, summer…glisten.** But it’s mostly the shirt that makes feel put-together, summery and vacationy.
