Selfie Does Infinite Style by Ann Taylor Review
As you may have surmised if you’ve read any of the recent posts, I started a new job a couple months ago. Unlike my last vurrry casual job where I essentially just wore crazy printed pencil and a-line skirts because I never had to interact with clients off the road, my new Glow-up job also required me to suit up! Which honestly left me in a panic because not all women’s suiting makes human sense. Like, hello. I don’t need my shoulders to be bigger than they are and uh, I have a waist? Also, I freakin like pockets! What in the name of Taylor Alison Swift is with the lack of pockets?!*
*deep breath* Anyways, review. So after I went to a lot of stores, someone finally suggested Ann Taylor and I bought out their suiting section. And then realized that was the only part of the store that wasn’t 40% off. And I guess I could wear the same five outfits over and over but then I found about the infinite style subscription box and now, I have new outfits every week! ( I also included all the boxes I’ve gotten so far at the end here).
How it Works
On the website, you pick out items for your virtual closet. Then you get three items shipped to you. You can keep the items as long as you want, then you ship them back and get three more items. It’s a flat fee of $100 a month (My first month I had a promo code for $75). Two- day shipping is included.
The Awesome Part
So the positive thing is that with suiting that I bought - a black suit, dark green suit, black dress, and navy dress - with only three new pieces, I have new outfits. A lot of that has to do with choosing dresses which can be paired with any blazer and choosing blazers which can change up the simple suit dresses I bought. I also understand the sizing because I own a lot of Ann Taylor now. The two-day shipping is included and of course, you go through the website and pick out your own items. You can see what is on your way when the box ships which is useful to plan out your outfits ahead of time. In addition, you get a discount if you decide to keep an item which has ranged from $19 to $90 per item.
The Catch
Here’s the thing - I am in-office Monday through Thursday. So in order to wear three items of clothing, I have to receive it Monday night. The first turn-around had like a four-day lag and showed up on Wednesday. To be worth $1200 a year, I want to be able to wear new items every week. (I figured out this system through trial and error which we’ll discuss below). While you can prioritize things in your closet, you don’t get to actually pick so you get whatever they send you and they’ve yet to send a suit - you know where the pants/skirt arrive with a matching blazer which would be clutch. You also have to keep your closet stocked with at least 19 pieces to ensure a seamless flow.
Overall Review: A-
Once I figured out that I should mark everything as being returned the day I wore the last piece, the turn-around time issue was resolved. Even with a postal holiday card on 10/14, I’ve still had new pieces every week. I definitely appreciate the discounted prices if I wanted to keep - I wish Rent the Runway did that. But my point in having this subscription is to not spend money on new clothes.
I also really like having new items every week - it makes it fun to put outfits together even if no one notices. Fabrics and fit are something to track. I got one dress is my regular size that was a shift dress and needed to be smaller. Some of the dresses have really wrinkles to heck and I... sit at a desk and then, attend meetings so I wouldn’t be psyched to own those pieces but it doesn’t bother me as much since I don’t. In this change from having my work clothes really only work as work clothes. I’ve been super happy with the quality, timing, and variety for the price.
